The Legend of the Golem of Lauderdale

Miami Paranormal received this letter from a person who wishes to remain anonymous. While not 100% certain as to what this person saw, it is our opinion that the creature described is a Golem. If that is true then it is very exciting news because this would mean the legend of the golem is true. The Golem is an old Jewish folklore legend that tells of a creature made of clay or mud that is brought to life. Probably the most famous tale is the Golem of Prague.

“I have held off telling anybody about this for some time, at least two months. It was an experience that frightened me, and moreover, I thought I was crazy, and thought everyone would think the same. Well, I don’t have a problem with being crazy, but I don’t want to be THAT kind of crazy. This is often attributed to UFO’s but I have become convinced otherwise, largely by my own intuition and gut feeling. I keep going over this over and over again, but I cannot entertain the possibility that this was a figment of my imagination. I did not dream this during a drowsy spell behind the wheel of my truck.

I was, in fact, tired that night, having worked late in South Miami, so when I got to the interchange from the Palmetto to I-95, instead of continuing on the highway out of Miami, I chose to take 441/State Road 7 to Fort Lauderdale. The lights, as usual, were not friendly. After twenty or so minutes of driving on 441, I made my right onto my main road home. I was just minutes from home. I don’t recall the time. It was after midnight, perhaps, 1 o’clock.

I stopped at the traffic light that directed traffic on the west side of I-95 on Oakland Park Blvd. I-95 crosses Oakland Park as a simple overpass, some 15 to 20 feet above. As I waited for the light, I looked to the left of the overpass, staring, and saw a dazzling bright, green light explode from behind the hill. The base of the burst was far to wide for the center to be higher than ground level. It lingered for three or four seconds. It did not move. There was no accompanying sound or shaking, and it was close. It literally could only have come from the other side of the overpass.

It took another minute before the light turned green, and I drove on. I didn’t pay attention to the road, and fortunately, I didn’t have a mishap from my negligence. I’m pretty sure I didn’t even swerve, but I looked up the northbound entry ramp onto I-95 and saw a sight even more confusing. I would have looked at the clearing between the entry ramp and the overpass, but what I saw on the interstate had my undivided attention.

I saw a creature, human in overall configuration, but with a primitive bulk and shape. It appeared to be made of brown stone, like the boulders you see in Death Valley, or even light brown modelling clay. It stood a third or twice as tall as the tallest palm trees flanking the highway, so at least 30-feet-tall, or maybe 40. It walked like one of those eighties toy robots you could get as a child in the 80′s (I had a Voltron). You know, the ones that walked like penguins and if their arms moved they just rotated in tight little circles, like an anal retentive jogger. It was walking north bound on I-95, with drivers passing it, oblivious. I drove on, and lost sight of the highway behind a series of office buildings as I made another turn, but as I drove up, I caught sight of the highway again, I saw the creature again, this time, from the side, continuing to walk, painfully slowly up the highway.

Not sure what to make of it, not even really sure what I saw. Have there been other experiences or sightings like this? I have found absolutely no information on the internet, and this memory has never stopped disturbing me.”
